Ammo or Alcohol: Election Results
I just rolled in after 12 hours in the car, 9 1/2 behind the wheel. My eyes are glazed and I don't know if I'll have a lot to add to election coverage, but if anything crops up, it will go here.
As for the "ammo or alcohol" crack, that's merely based upon reactions I've heard predicted from the right and left. Conservatives seem to be content to drown their sorrows in the event of an Obama victory, where some nutty liberals have claimed that there will be riots, and that "blood will run in the streets" if Obama's coronation is thwarted by a McCain victory.
Update: Close to home, Kay Hagan defeated Elizabeth Dole in the NC Senate race, according to Fox News. I find it very difficult to feel much sympathy for Dole. She wasn't much to remember.
Update: McCain's dreams of a PA upset seem to be over; just about everyone is calling Pennsylvania for Obama. Clinton-supporting PUMAs appear to have been all growl, no bite.
Update: If the polls are correct in NC and Ohio, and both states go Obama with over 50%, then I think this election is pretty much over.
Update: Ohio goes for Obama, and the math seems to indicate that McCain can't hit the magic number of 270 electoral votes without a major surprise. Congratulations seem to be in order for Barack Obama.
Update: It's over, folks. Please pray for President-Elect Obama, and that he makes the right decisions while in office.

Pardon me for being different -- Obama will never be my president, not now, not ever. My maternal grandparents people were butchered by the same Stalinist goons that are now voting for Obama (Ayers, Dohrn, Klonsky, etc.). I grew up the liberal kid in rural Alabama and when I read your blog I hear the guys that used to kick my ass. I've done my darndest to give you a hard time over the years. The sentiments you express are exactly those of the Secessionists of yore - that the peaceful, democratic transfer of power from one regime to another is NOT to be tolerated because your side didn't win.

Though the MSM tried their best to keep it plugged it was leaking horribly between the seams and from Barack Hussien Obama's own mouth as well as from his pre election life long radical friends. We know his mindset and the lack of experience and the fact that he is just a front for something bigger. Wake up. Now lets see the outcome. The dirty ballot box stuffing tactics and blantant lies at the mic are only the beginning as to how these guys are going to operate as they set to crush the USA. What is not being talked about is his true character and ideology that he purposely hid from the public's eye. All his records, including his birth certificate. Generally the public still doesn't know who this guy is as the MSM kept him hid. All they are hyping to divert attention is that he is black. This is true but give me JC Watts instead not a radical marxist which come in all kinds of colors.
Historical election? YES but not for what they are touting. To hype color is racism but what about his heart and what he believes. They won't be slow about their agenda but I'm suspicious about the MSM continuing their propoganda machine to cover up the goverments actions. They will be hard hitting and overwhelming and subversive. This demagogue didn't run just to boast. The "Fairness Doctrine" is going to be one of the first salvo's launched against freedom of speech and I wonder if they are going to expand it somehow to the internet. CY, I think it would be great that he was just a maverick (liberal light) but wake up. America has just been highjacked. Listen to Jeremiah Wright, listen to William Ayers. This is what this this guy is. Do you think they will laugh that they pulled this off and shrugg off their marxist ideology to just play it straight for the sake of the USA which they hate? Republicans have got to quit being "nice".
Dems are using negative propaganda against Rs everyday, they need to turn the tables.
Every time an R is interviewed they need to talk about:
* Ds culture of corruption
* Ds deceitfulness
* Ds being unethical
* Ds being power-mad
etc.
And Rs need to polish their brand and not publicly flog people like Lott and Allen for "racist" comments.
When a "macaca" incidence happens, an R politician needs to say it was an "unfortuante" word, but go directly to attacking any and all wrongs by Ds.
This is a political war, and Rs have disarmed.

An I-81 Story
Almost exactly four years after I started CY I find myself once again in Newburgh, NY, where I started this blog. We drove up yesterday on a long-planned trip to visit a friend who recently had a her baby.
As we drove up I-81 in eastern PA, I noticed that every few miles Obama supporters had placed two parallel rows of perhaps 20 signs in each row in the median. This went on for the entire time were were on I-81; I'm not sure how long it went on, but imagine they must have used hundreds, if not thousands of signs, and spent many man-hours deploying these signs in neat, even rows.
To counter all this? A single pair of strategically placed McCain/Palin signs.
My take away?
The Obama campaign and it supporters spent a tremendous amount of time and effort on flash devoid of substance.
If John McCain becomes the President after voting is complete on Tuesday, the wasteful, shallow extravagance in median of I-81 may very well be a fitting metaphor for a Obama political campaign ran precisely the same way.

The cost of road signs is minimal, but the investment of time by volunteers is immeasurable. McCain signs aren't out there because McCain supporters are much fewer in number and way less enthusiastic in supporting their candidate.

In northeast philly- a blue collar heavily democrat area- there are no Obama signs. There were hundreds for Kerry.
Guess those folks- who under any other circumstance would be voting Dem- perhaps DONT think Obama is the better choice?

McCain will get *way* more votes per dollar than Obama.

I don't see a groundswell for Obama. Lots of supporters, yes. But not that kind of broad support I sensed for Reagan. But I think everyone sees a man attempting to buy the Presidency and already acting like he was President. I think most Americans believe that Obama has not been vetted or challenged by the press (more for electricity? civilian national security force? Columbia? Medical records? etc., etc.).
I think that such extravagance in Pennsylvania might offend more voters--of the bitter and clingy type--than impress.

If there was something that made me think that each person put up one sign, maybe. However, there's no reason that one or two people couldn't have put up dozens of signs.
Of course, since the Daley Chicago Machine that Obama was trained in specializes in multiple votes per person--not to mention dead people voting--I guess this sort of tactic is right up their alley.

Just curious: what's the difference in your minds as to "lots of Obama supporters" and "a groundswell of support"? Do you not recognize that John McBush hasn't led in a single credible poll since September 25?

All those signs, if they were put up by multiple people, is mostly because his supporters don't work, won't work, you couldn't give them a job in a pie factory. I can almost guarantee the signs will never be removed either unless the state pays for it.

I drove through Idaho/Washington farm country today and I was surprised by the number of Obama signs that I saw. Many more than a few months before, but still fewer than McCain signs. Strangely the Obama signs were often homemade too. This whole area has always been not just safely Republican but exclusively Republican. My guess it is a sign of what is to come on Tuesday.

The polls (not that I trust them) are neck-and-neck, neither candidate has such a commanding lead that it will be over early on Tuesday. Heck, two of the states that McCain and Obama are fighting over are in western time zones...Colorado and Nevada.
All serious political pundits, left and right know that it will be a very long process determining the winner this time. With the multiple investigations into voter fraud this year, it could be weeks or even months before it's truly decided.
Congratulations are in order, tho... you've successfully shown yourself to be even more clueless than I had thought you were.

Hard to find a Mc Cain sign in NY, even in my neighborhood where O'Rielly lives, somewhere I'm told. But New York is liberal and always will be because of the mass of poor people here and their dependence on government cash in one way or another. I have two sons, one of whom went to a prestigeous Ivy Engineering school,that I paid for, and the other to a state school that he put himself through and where he majored in History. The former has never had a job that wasn't government funded. He is very much a socialist and thinks Obama is a gift to the US because of his intelligence. The other guy has worked since he was 12 in the entertainment industry. He has no job security, has never been paid a dime by the government, buys most of his clothes second hand and never asks me for money. All his friends are mad about Obama and consider him a god like creature. He, however, will vote for McCain. Self reliance and terrorism are his personal issues.They both live in LA but grew up in NY. I can't see Obama being good for the US if he stays on his solid left course. Let's hope the undecides decide for the guy with the fewest signs.

I know of several instances of voter registration fraud, but what examples of voter fraud are you referring too? As they are not remotely in the same category, I would be interested to see links to your alleged statement.

It won't be pretty, but we lived through Jimmy Carter (albiet with double digit inflation, massive unemployment, 1% economic growth, an energy crisis and the highest prime interest rate of any president before or since), but after 4 years of Carter, Americans realized they had been sold a pipe-dream and they were actually worse off than they were before. Carter never got a second term. Neither will Obama. And who came after Carter? Maybe this dark Obama cloud does have a silver lining...

My question, "How can an illegal alien work
with Experience Works an organization that is paid with government funds? What documents could she given them for identification and income? This program is federally funded by grants and allows people to work 20 hours a week at minimum wage. Red Phantom: Point well taken on the Government getting into the banking system and you're right. We've been steadily inching towards a socialistic society for quite some time. Proof positive is that the "Conservative" nominee is responsible for the abomination of McCain/Feingold, agrees with the bailout, and is trying to "out Democrat" the Democrat on many social issues by big government answers. The Government officials feel quite comfortable telling taxpayers what to eat, what to smoke, how to run businesses, what to teach, who gets what and when, and it goes on and on and it has penalties for each and every one of them. I live from paycheck to paycheck but even I realize that I use the roads, bridges, military, federal law enforcement, tourist attractions, and so on that the rich already pay for. It is in essence: redistribution and that's the socialist mantra and using the government to do it is no different than Cuba or Venezuela except they don't disguise it.

Its like the threatened 'riots' that have been promised in minority communities... the deranged poor people in those areas never seem to run out to a middle class or upper class nieghborhood and burn it... they just burn their pitiful dwellings to the ground and then expect those very same people they were 'protesting' to rebuild and furnish those same dwellings, although how burning your own stuff and destroying your dwelling constitutes a protest against "the man" is something that is beyond me....

Read the text of the speech, it's all about the role of blacks in this country and how they've faired under various presidents. "G-D America" is a statement of frustration about what he sees as injustice towards blacks and even Japanese during WWII. There's a huge difference between criticism and anti-Americanism. If you think the the speech is wrong, fine. It's dumb to infer that Obama is anti-American based on remarks his spiritual advisor made about race.
Obama's a constitutional scholar. He's a classic American success story. He could have been very rich right out of law school but instead worked towards what he sees as improving the nation.
On the other hand, Todd Palin joining the Alaskan Separatist Party is traitorous. If you don't love this country, get out. If he's repented I haven't heard about it.

Socialism is by definition the collective ownership of the means of production. You can argue about this until you are blue in the face, but that's what the dictionary and every econ 101 class says.
Most presidents make changes to the tax code, and each such change redistributes wealth. Everyone making under $250,000 gets a tax cut under Obama, whereas McCain wants to extend Bush's tax cuts on the wealthy. Both redistribute wealth, neither is socialism.

No, socialism is the collective ownership of the means of production. It has always meant that. Your side uses it as a vague slur against Obama but it makes no sense. I don't know what your problem with Obama is exactly, but he's a capitalist just like everyone else. I've never even met a socialist. It's a dying movement.

Fair enough. I didn't like it either, but as they say there are no atheists in foxholes and no libertarians in a financial crisis. I guess if I were a politician and I was convinced that a systemic financial meltdown was at hand I'd have done the same thing. I'd be much happier if the bill eliminated bonuses for all executives that received the bailout.

All you can do is what I (we) did. Don't give up.
Realize you did not give enough personal time the last time. Find candidates you believe in and put your feet on the ground and make calls.
In 2010 your personal effort that you did not make this time can be the difference...
If as individuals, we are not willing to put our own personal effort(voting and signs in our yard do not count)then we truly don't believe in what we say we believe in..
(That is why Bush won in 2004 and Obama will win this time)
