Huffington Post Writer Stabs Ex-Lover 220 Times, Commits Suicide

Boynton, Beach, FL:

A woman who lived with her ex-partner on the city's south side stabbed her former lover more than 200 times with a Phillips-head screwdriver and then tried to conceal the killing, police said.

After committing the crime, Carol Anne Burger, 57, a writer who friends described as engaged and eager to move on with life, reported her old flame missing and then, a day later, shot herself to death in her backyard, police said.

[snip]

Burger, upset at the disintegration of her relationship and disgusted with the U.S. during the past several years, sometimes talked of moving to Panama or Mexico to start again.

That she had recently lost her job didn't help the bouts of depression she sometimes experienced, said her close friend and confidante, Helen Gale.

But when the Web site The Huffington Post tapped Burger to cover the election from Florida this month, the job seemed to give her renewed focus. Burger burned to write a story for the site's front page and poured herself into the work, Gale said.

This lady obviously had serious psychological issues. The article also states she came to hate the United States "during the past several years."

Uh-huh.

I wonder how much eight years of the self-induced hysteria we know as "Bush Derangement Syndrome" and the requisite feelings of impotent rage and looming oppression fed into her existing problems.

May God be with both families as they deal with this senseless tragedy.

Update: Perhaps interested in keeping up appearances, the Palm Beach Post has now removed all references to Burger's disgust of the United States.

1 Such a tragedy, but I can't say I am surprised considering there are so many off balanced people congregating at HuffPo. I honestly think that place is bad for anyone's mental health.

3 I'm saddened and horrified for the victim who was so brutally murdered. I'm also saddened that the pure derangement and hate from the left in the past eight years has been so jarring, so sick, that my first reaction upon reading about this HuffPo moonbat killing herself was to chuckle. There is nothing funny about any human tragedy, but they have seen to it that I can no longer see them as people I disagree with, but rather, as the enemy. And I hate that the political life in this country has come to that.

4 Cristoph, I certainly understand where you are coming from, but when dealing with that end of the spectrum, I've already written off that aspect of their psyches. The internal contradiction of murdering the innocent simply does not enter into their equations. To me what that quote shows a person who can't accept that her own limited experiences did not provide her with a complete understanding of the limits of another human's behavior. Not only does she think she is totally incapable of such acts she projects that belief on her associations. These are the people willing to push the society and our form of government to the very limits in the hopes of achieving their own personal ideals. The notion that things might go badly doesn't seem to cross their minds.

6 BDS claims its last victim. Sad.

7 Not the last, I fear, just most recent. Bush's second term isn't over yet, and there are strong signs the disease has mutated into more deadly parallel strains, PDS, and MDS, that will only grow in intensity over the next four years, starting Tuesday night.

8 More beer for the rest of us? I'm sort of in the same boat as everyone else, knowing full well that the Lefties dance on the graves of Reagan etc. saying it's their "right" to release their anger when they die, but complaining about our lack of compassion if we do the same. I could try to be the better person, but work is hard. So, more beer for us.

9 At least she didn't use a gun. Guns are dangerous!

10 Clearly we need more stringent screwdriver control.

13 It's sad. People try to fill that acing spiritual void in their lives with politics, activism, medication, sex... whatever it is... and it ends badly. It's so tragic because the Grace of God is available for any who ask for it. But people still choose misery. It's so sad.

14 Our remorse should be directed to her victim and his family -- this woman deserves our scorn...she was a selfish egoist who allowed politics to dictate and warp her life. God will judge her rightly for the evil she has done.

15 They were not lovers; they were married. Is this divorce same sex style? Huff Po is very a very unhinged group.

16 Clearly we need more stringent screwdriver control. Very true. We need a 7-day waiting period for all screwdriver purchases, with background checks for all purchasers. (/sarc)

17 Wow At two strokes/sec., assuming she could keep up that pace, she worked her over for almost two minutes. Maybe she took a break and came back later for more. Have we checked the Guiness book for a record?

18 I knew this woman. Carol Ann Berger used to be a reporter for a credit union focused publication. I have talked to her a number of times regarding cu issues. I heard about her suicide a few days ago through other people I work with in the credit union industry. When I read this report last night, I was horrified that she was the murder. The kind of rage that it would take to stab someone that many times is incomprehensible. I just feel sick.
